Slag is an industrial byproduct that takes many forms, textures and colors. It has been found in both common and extremely remote locations. Depending upon the iron content, samples may or may not be attracted to a magnet. Slag, hematite and magnetite samples that may have been smoothed by weathering are commonly misidentified by the inexperienced as meteorites.
